Celebrating Founder’s Day with an Olympic Flair

23rd May 24

Yesterday, The Gower School celebrated our annual Founder’s Day, themed around the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The event began with excitement as children arrived at school dressed as Olympic athletes or in sport-related outfits. Our school courtyard was decorated with balloons, the Olympic rings, flag bunting, and a winner’s podium, and some lively instrumental music played as the children entered set the tone for a day full of fun and festivities.

The day began with a short but spectacular ‘Opening Ceremony’ in the New Hall. The highlight was the procession of the Olympic ‘torch’ and a parade where children proudly showcased their dazzling costumes. The children engaged in creative and energetic activities inspired by the games. These included ‘breaking’ dance sessions with Miss Milli, a table football tournament, and Olympic torch and ring decorating activities led by our Head of Art, Miss Wragg.

Another favourite was constructing Eiffel Towers using dried spaghetti and mini marshmallows, a fun challenge that combined creativity and engineering. In addition, a French-themed quiz with Mlle Gormand added a touch of cultural learning to the day.

Lunchtime featured a special ‘Parisian’ menu, cooked by our kitchen chef. The meal consisted of baguette sandwiches, provencal vegetables, gratin dauphinoise, French cheeses, and crepes with delicious strawberry toppings. This feast added a delightful French flavour to the celebration.
